History of DIH
The vision of the Railway Inspection Directorate is to provide quality, safe, transparent and non-discriminatory services to Infrastructure Managers and Public or Private Railway Enterprises, which operate in the railway sector of the Republic of Albania.

With the construction of the Albanian railway, the work experience brought as a necessity the creation of a special sector that would ensure the implementation of the Albanian legislation in the railway sector in order to ensure the safe movement of trains on the railway line.

This sector was initially established and operated for a time under the General Directorate of Railways based on Decree No. 5121 dated 04.12.1973 and was named: “For the protection and maintenance of lines and the provision of trains on railways”, and continued its activity until 1981 With the issuance of the Decision of the Council of Ministers No. 61 dated 24.02.1981, the “Railway Inspectorate” was established.

This decision created this Institution on its own, detaching it from the influence of the General Directorate of Railways and passing it under the subordination of the Ministry of Transport Law No. 9317 dated 18.11.2004 (Railway Code of the Republic of Albania) was named “Railway Inspection Directorate” with the same object of activity and depending on the ministry that covers transport

DIH Mission
The mission of the Railway Inspection Directorate is the regulation, supervision and organization of the railway sector in the Republic of Albania in the following directions:
a) protection, maintenance, overhaul and reconstruction of railway infrastructure;
b) safe movement of trains;
c) technical control of rolling stock during their use;
d) all procedures followed during the acceptance for use of railway vehicles. .
